To Fly or Float (virtual)

Birmingham, 1979. Following a family tragedy, orphaned Eva moves in with her father”s estranged brother. David is steeped in tradition and unprepared for a child, whilst Eva buries her grief in daydreams. Their distance feels unbridgeable – until a new friendship leads Eva to build a kite to send a message up to her parents. As the kite takes shape, so too does the bond between Eva and David: she brings light into his world, while he introduces her to the grounding rhythm of Jewish ritual. To Fly or Float is a tender story of childhood loss, faith, and the shared language we find when words fall short.
WHY WE LIKE THIS FILM: A winner of the UK Pears Shorts Film Fund, a beautifully told, touching story.
