A Special Event for Yom Hashoa

All I Had Was Nothingness

Forty years after the release of Claude Lanzmann’s monumental film Shoah, Guillaume Ribot reveals the director’s relentless pursuit to tell the untold, using only Lanzmann’s words and unseen footage from the masterpiece.
WHY WE LIKE THIS FILM: Most people have heard of “Shoah”, but less have watch all 10 hours of the 1985 documentary. Created from some of the 220 hours of unaired footage, along with narration of Lanzmann’s own words from his later writings, this film is a remarkable achievement. It shows the “making of” the original production with some of the extraordinary lengths Lanzmann went to in order to create his masterpiece. One striking thing about the film is its timeliness. Although the material is from 1985, aside from the clothes and hairstyles, the events could have been recorded today. Don’t miss this phenomenal film, which will only play in-person.
