Based on the bestselling book “At the Wolf’s Table” by Italian author Rosella Postorino, THE TASTERS follows a group of women who were recruited by the SS in 1943 to make sure that the food being served to Hitler was not poisoned. Forced to eat what might kill them, the tasters start to split into two factions: those loyal to Hitler and those who insist they aren’t Nazis, even as they risk their lives everyday for the Führer.
Why we like this film: In 2012, at the age of 95, shortly before her death, a woman named Margot Wölk revealed that she had been one of the young German women forced to taste Hitler's meals. No one had ever known about the existence of the food tasters. Margot Wölk was the only one among them to survive the end of the war. Her story inspired both the novel and the film. Although the Jewish content isn't immeidately obvious, it becomes revealed towards the end of the movie.

A sentimental father-daughter dramedy rooted in Holocaust memory follows an observant Israeli son who travels to Budapest to reclaim a fabled wartime ring tied to his mother’s survival. Arnon, a driving instructor who’s gone adrift, persuades his estranged daughter Alma, whose coming out he never fully accepted, to join the search for the ring that had saved their family. As they contend with bureaucratic hurdles, antisemitism, unexpected generosity, and memories from ailing matriarch Violetta, the first steps toward reconnection emerge. Drawn from his family history and written and co-directed by lead actor, Adir Miller, this gently affecting journey blends humor and quiet heartache as a father’s quest becomes a chance to reweave a family story frayed by hurt and time.
Why we like this film: One of the most engaging Holocaust-related films which has won awards at many festivals. Great character development, plot twists, terror, and humor. Inspired by true stories with the real life heroine present at the end.
