Tel Aviv on Fire – Austin Jewish Film Festival

Tel Aviv on Fire

“Salam, an inexperienced young Palestinian man, becomes a writer on a popular soap opera after a chance meeting with an Israeli soldier. His creative career is on the rise—until the soldier and the show’s financial backers disagree about how the show should end, and Salam is caught in the middle.”

Dan Kleinman image There will be a program following the film with co-screenwriter Dan Kleinman.

A hapless Palestinian intern on a well-liked Arab soap opera, popular in both the Territories and Israel, Salam must navigate through an Israeli checkpoint every day to get to the Ramallah studio. In order to gain favor with the commander of the checkpoint, Salam allows him to suggest changes to the show’s plot that would see a sultry Arab spy fall in love with an IDF general. Torn between the demands of the army officer and the show’s Arab financial backers on how the love story will end, Salam devises a final masterstroke. Co-written by Jewish and Palestinian screen writers.
